LEGO Price Per Piece Trend and Analysis

Based on the Price Per Piece in USD, I conclude that overall, The LEGO Group (TLG) has maintained or slightly reduced their prices over time.

Your perception may be impacted by the theme or the size of the sets you purchase, notwithstanding wild swings overall.

  • Regarding size:
    • The larger the set, the better the Price Per Piece.
    • Increasing: Small sets (up to 200 pieces)
    • Stable: Large (1000-1500 pieces) and Titan (2000+ pieces) sets
    • Decreasing: Medium (500-1000 pieces) and Very Large (1500-2000 pieces) sets
  • Regarding theme:
    • Major increases: Disney
    • Minor increase: City, Creator, Creator Expert, Harry Potter, Star Wars
    • Stable: Icons
    • Decreases: Classic, Ideas, Ninjago, Speed Champions

Caveats:

  • This is based on USD, as per Brickset.com figures (removing sets where the price is unknown).
  • As shown, the default state of the report removes sets with less than 35 pieces since they can skew figures, eg. baseplates, train tracks, etc.
  • I’ve only included a selection of themes that TLG have produced… other themes may drive the trend in alternative directions.
